Nevada
Nevada is considered the 39th healthiest state to live in, according to a 2007 update to an annual look at 20 factors by a leading foundation. Nevada has a lack of primary care physicians, access to adequate prenatal care. It ranks dead last in childhood immunizations.
With that said, Nevada has a state law called the Guaranteed Renewability Provision. This promises that you can always renew your health insurance, regardless of your state of health at the time. Nevada laws do require premiums to be regulated and kept within a certain range, so they can only vary slightly. Your health insurance can be cancelled if you provide false information or if you do not pay your premiums, but they cannot cancel your insurance on the basis of your health.
Nevada health insurance companies are allowed to apply an exclusion period. This is a time period that expenses for treatment of a pre-existing condition that you already had treated in the past will not be covered. The health insurance companies have the right to use the exclusion period and offer riders to the policy this may be a permanent or short-term rider. If you are ill when you apply for coverage with an insurance company, they have the right to reject you or set rules such as the exclusion period.
In the event that you lose your job, spouse or if you are a dependent of an insured that dies or loses the insurance, you are guaranteed the option of a conversion policy. The conversion policy allows you to have temporary Nevada health insurance with limited premium costs and benefits. The conversion policy will not have an exclusion period for a pre-existing condition. It is important to know that applications for a conversion policy must be turned in within 31 days of the end of the previous plan, or they may be denied.
Nevada is known as the Sagebrush State, Silver State, Battle-Born State. The origin of the state's name is Spanish, meaning "snow-capped."
